About CERTEK
CERTEK is a maintenance program designed to help facilities better meet their maintenance goals. This can be done through a series of tasks – which can either be on a weekly, monthly, or custom date range.
The Challenge
CERTEK came up to us for help merging their new business plan and maintenance program into an intuitive and user-friendly mobile app. Their goal was to allow maintenance personnel and users in the system to manage their tasks at a facility on a recurring schedule. Most importantly, the owners of the app and business needed robust reporting on those tasks and facilities for clear oversight of the maintenance program.
Our Strategy
From the get-go, we knew this project was going to require a great amount of detail – and we knew exactly what needed to be done to accomplish CERTEK’s goals. Here’s what we did:
Phase 1
Discovery
- The discovery portion of the project was all about learning the CERTEK system.
- We needed a microscopic understanding of the core business model, the new plan, as well as the goals of the maintenance program.
- This involved delving into the inner workings of the system so we could best understand how to incorporate and translate it into a mobile app.
Phase 2
Plot Out the User Experience
- CERTEK’s vision of the user experience was based on simplicity, but required robust capabilities.
- Our job was to bridge the gap between these attributes and create a highly functional yet visually appealing UX.
- We made sure all of the use cases and scenarios were covered in relation to the regeneration of tasks, and other various complex features.
Phase 3
Design
- With a clear map of the user journey, the next step was bringing the visual components of the app into focus.
- This meant creating top-to-bottom wireframes and screens depicting every step of the user journey in a way that accurately reflected brand elements – and the desired sense of simplicity.
Phase 4
Development
- As the designs were approved by the client, we proceeded to the development phase to deliver the final product.
- We implemented an outstanding user experience within the app for maintenance personnel to manage their tasks.
- We used Java, Golang programming languages, and Amazon RDS for developing the application.
Phase 5
Test and Optimize
- Our QA team performed a great deal of testing, fine-tuning, and mastering.
- Once the client was satisfied with the look, feel, and usability of the interface, we made plans to roll out the platform.

The Solution
The platform included a card-based system with drag & drop tasks into different statuses. The key with the tasks in this particular system was that they had to regenerate on a particular schedule. The admins of the system were able to manage the users, clients, and tasks through a web-based admin portal to handle everything they needed.
